How much should you tip?
Tipping customs vary widely. In the United States and Canada 15% to 20% of the pre-tax bill is typical in restaurants. In much of Europe service is often included or a small round-up is enough, and in some countries tipping is not expected at all.

Splitting the bill
The calculator adds the tip to the bill and divides the total by the number of people, so everyone pays the same share of both. If people ordered very different amounts, it is fairer to work out each person's own bill and tip separately.
Tips on rounding
Amounts are shown to two decimal places. Shares that do not divide evenly, such as a third of a bill, are rounded for display, so the shares may differ from the total by a cent or so when added up.
