Show the calculation steps
- Monthly interest rate r = 11% ÷ 12 = 0.91667% (0.0091667 as a decimal).
- Number of monthly payments n = 3 years = 36 payments.
- (1 + r)^n = 1.3889, so EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1) = ₹3,273.87.
- Total payment = EMI × n = ₹3,273.87 × 36 = ₹1,17,859.
- Total interest = total payment − principal = ₹1,17,859 − ₹1,00,000 = ₹17,859.
- Lenders may round the EMI to the nearest whole currency unit, so your bank's figure can differ slightly.
Bike loans are short and small
Because two-wheelers cost less than cars, tenures are typically one to five years. Rates are often higher than car loans, so total interest as a share of the loan can be noticeable.
Some dealers advertise flat interest rates. A flat rate is much higher than it looks on a reducing balance; check the equivalent with the flat vs reducing interest calculator.
Get the paperwork right
Ask whether the loan covers insurance and registration, and whether there is a processing fee, so the amount financed matches what you actually need.
Formula
EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1)
Total payment = EMI × n
Total interest = Total payment − P
Where:
- P
- = Principal, the loan amount
- r
- = Monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100)
- n
- = Number of monthly payments

Frequently asked questions
Is a flat rate on a bike loan the same as a reducing rate?
No. A flat rate charges interest on the full amount for the whole tenure, so its effective reducing-balance rate is much higher. Use the flat vs reducing calculator to compare.
How long should a bike loan be?
Most are one to three years. A longer tenure reduces the EMI but increases the total interest on a small loan.
Can I close a bike loan early?
Usually yes, sometimes with a foreclosure fee. Ask your lender before signing.
