Saving more each year
Most people can save more as their income rises. Even a modest yearly increase in your savings, in line with your pay, changes the outcome a great deal over a couple of decades.
Real versus nominal
A rupee in twenty years buys less than a rupee today. The inflation-adjusted figure shows what the projected wealth would be worth in today's prices.
Formula
Each month: wealth = (wealth + yearly saving ÷ 12) × (1 + i)
Yearly saving in year k = Saving × (1 + increase)^(k − 1)
Value in today's money = Wealth ÷ (1 + inflation)^years
Where:
- i
- = Monthly return (annual ÷ 12 ÷ 100)
